“It is not the system that failed, it is you who failed the system.”

Those words were uttered by Judge Terry Shewmaker Thursday morning to 32-year-old Josue Avendano-Gomez, according to the Elkhart Truth.

The convicted drug dealer was sentenced to 26 years for each of his seven counts of cocaine dealing. However, Judge Shewmaker ordered the sentences be served at the same time as one another. Avendano-Gomez was also given 522 days of time served at Elkhart County Jail.

Avendano-Gomez was caught with about 300 grams of cocaine when he was arrested. He’s also an undocumented immigrant living in the United States illegally. Judge Shewmaker said he’d usually give probation. Since Avendano-Gomez couldn’t legally get a job, he received no probation.

Avendano-Gomez, who emotionally asked for leniency in the courtroom, will be deported once his sentence is up. Shewmaker wasn’t moved by the plea, saying that he’s had plenty of chances to change his life after nine previous criminal offenses.

Obviously it was the system that has allowed him to remain illegally in the country while being arrested 9 times that has failed. If he would have been deported the first time he was arrested he would not have been here to commit 8 more crimes.

Tom Jones…exactly! Judge Shewmaker…really??? Criminal and illegal alien was “arrested” eight previous times by Indiana’s finest, and you would have given him probation. Judge Terry Shewmaker= Textbook definition of insanity.

In The Elkhart Truth’s article about this person, they have conveniently omitted the comments section after the article. I guess The Elkhart Truth doesn’t want any negative comments made about the illegal immigrant situation in the county.
