The unseasonably milder winter has resulted in less road salt being used which, in turn, means less tax dollars being spent in cities and towns in Michiana.
However, the warm-cold roller coaster temperatures have resulted in more potholes.
Berrien County Road Commission officials estimate the commission has 25 events in the winter where they go out and do work, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57. So far this season, they’ve had 17, most to patch up potholes.
The commission says they are working as fast as they can to fill those potholes. They are asking drivers to slow down and not underestimate road conditions just because of warmer temps.

Cold, too cold, not cold, warm, too warm, rain, drought…No matter what there is never enough money to take care of the roads. Anyone notice the excessive amounts of salt used when they do go out and salt? They have to use it or budget shrinks…Waste of our tax dollars yet again!
