Mother of teen accused of robbery turns son in to Elkhart police

The mother of a teen accused of robbery in Elkhart solved the case for officers.

The robbery happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. Sunday at an apartment in the 900 block of Bontrager Avenue.

The 17-year-old knocked on the door of the victim’s apartment and asked for a cigarette. When the victim turned to get the cigarette, the teen walked in, pointed a gun at the woman, and demanded money. He took cash and other property from the apartment and fled, according to Elkhart police.

Officers weren’t able to locate the robber at first, but his mother did. The teen was brought to the police station by his mother, where he was arrested for robbery.
