A felon who led police on a chase at speeds nearing 100 miles an hour has been sentenced to federal prison.

22-year-old Lonnie Lewis Jr. of Michigan City entered a guilty plea this week to being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was also given two years supervised release, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Lewis took off from police during a traffic stop on Sept. 9, 2016. As he was fleeing, he tossed a loaded gun and drugs out of the window, then tried to get others to retrieve the gun and drugs after the fact. Lewis ended up crashing into a tree.

Lewis was previously convicted of dealing cocaine in 2015.

  1. If a person can’t be trusted to exercise their constitutional rights without being a danger to law abiding citizens they should be released period. In six years is this ‘fellow’ going to less of a threat to us?
