Intoxicated man allegedly tries to rob Winona Lake bank

An intoxicated man who said he had a gun allegedly attempted to rob a Winona Lake bank Thursday afternoon. At 3:40 P.M. officers with the Winona Lake Police Department were dispatched to the Lake City Bank Winona Branch, 99 Chestnut Ave, Winona Lake. The first officer arrived on scene at 3:43 P.M., making contact with a suspect inside the bank, according to a news release from WLPD. The officer was able to take the suspect later identified as Arturo Ortega-Paredes into custody without further incident.

Investigators were able to determine that Paredes entered the bank implying he had a weapon and demanded money from the tellers. Paredes never displayed a weapon. Paredes had obtained an unknown amount of money from the tellers prior to being taken into custody, the release states.

Paredes was found to be intoxicated and was transported to a medical facility for medical clearance before being transported to Kosciusko County Jail for an outstanding warrant along with a charge of Armed Robbery related to the bank robbery.

Winona Lake Police were assisted by the Warsaw Police Department and the Kosciusko County Prosecutors Office.
