President Donald Trump’s tweets about MSNBC anchor Mika Brzezinski weren’t the only political tweets gaining attention in Michiana Thursday.

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg took to Twitter to blast a Politico article that stated that Trump is running his office like he was a mayor, not the President of the United States.

In a string of tweets that could be interpreted as veiled attacks of Trump, he states that Trump “is nothing like an American mayor, not a modern one anyway,” that he doesn’t have a “mayoral core,” and that a mayor “worries less about credit and blame, more about results.”

He continued the string of tweets by saying a mayor doesn’t “traffic in alternative facts,” “doesn’t dismiss or ignore the press,” and doesn’t insult women. He also says the “Carrier stunt” would never fly as a mayor because the locals would have held him accountable.

Buttigieg also believes a mayor’s “highest responsibility is to unite her constituents…not pit them against each other.” He continued by saying a mayor “assumes responsibility for what’s happening in the city, good or bad” and doesn’t allocate blame. Finally, Buttigieg feels that a mayor “calls a city to its highest values, and brings out the best in people.”

Finally, he issued a challenge to President Trump:

The tweets come after President Trump used his Twitter account to attack Brezezinski in a move that other GOP senators have spoken out against.

What Pete thinks it means to be a Mayor is building ‘smart streets’, roundabouts and raising taxes. Oh yeah, and running for his next job while not being mayor.

Our mayor could not manage Trumps tie rack with out building a roundabout to get to it and taxing us to pay for it. I say go ahead and work on your new job while your our mayor. Probably the same amount getting done anyway and it will help you go. What an idiot to try and put himself on the presidents level. Oh, my first reply was removed because it was a bit to accurate I guess. Trump was elected because he isn’t like ALL the other politicians…

Poor Pete. Stuck in South Bend cuz he can’t get hired by the radical left. South Bend is nothing but a step for him to become our first openly gay president. Sorry Pete, not gonna happen. Your policies are destructive, old, and played out.

All of the mayor’s decisions have been to build a resume for higher office, this is quite clear! Using our asset’s and questionable future for personal political gain. Shame! Shame

The mayor’s decisions have been a personal agenda to build a resume for higher state or federal office. Good mayors don’t do that.
