South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg reacts to transgender military ban

President Donald Trump‘s announced ban on transgender people in the military has drawn many opinions for and against it.

As you might guess, South Bend’s Mayor isn’t a fan.

Pete Buttigieg spoke to ABC 57 about the President’s tweets.

“I don’t know what really motivated this latest move…apparently, the President took his own Pentagon by surprise,” Buttigieg stated. “But it sounds like it’s got more to do with politics than policy.”

But that wasn’t the Mayor’s only criticism of the Trump Administration.

“I’m guessing they haven’t even thought this through or put in a plan,” Buttigieg speculated. “This presidency seems to be a ‘shoot first, ask questions later’ kind of thing.”

He says it’s “really unfortunate” for the troops who will be affected because of “this sudden and apparently unresearched policy.”

The LGBTQ Center in South Bend also wasn’t short on words to say. They called Trump’s new policy “regressive” and that “the contribution of transgender military service members is significant and should be celebrated.”

Have YOU thought through the consequence Pete? I realize you were a typist in Afghanistan, and somehow you think that makes you an expert in combat affairs. Transgender men could dress in women GI uniforms , this by itself creates a huge non-standard concern. The military doesn’t function under non-standards. Second, in the heat of battle “Pat” the sniper’s banana hair clip decides to fail and his/her hair is effecting a life and deaf situation. Moral among troops is already at a low it hasn’t seen since the 70’s. Calling a fellow common rank soldier a homosexual exploitive carries MUCH more penalty than telling flipping of an officer. And now you add a tranny into the barracks….Did YOU think this through Pete. For someone who should understand the consequences of not restricting soldiers to choose their own uniforms, you appear to be the one placing politics over common practicality.

I can only hope that President Trump continues to do the will of the people. Obama did change our country, for the worst, implementing horribly unpopular policies. Those policies were rejected by the American people with President Trump’s election. Our military has very successfully operated for over 240 years without men in dresses. How well could Obama really have thought out his policy allowing them in Mr Mayor? So many things done under the Obama administration harmed the standing of our great country in the world. The military is about uniformity not individuality. Not wanting a transgender person representing our military does not make a person homophobic, that lifestyle just does not fit into the American military. President Trump didn’t ban homosexuality or reinstate don’t ask don’t tell, he is merely bringing the military back in line with its purpose, protecting the country, not providing sex change operations. There are many ways a person that CHOOSES that lifestyle can serve his/her country unfortunately for them OUR Comander and Chief decided that the military is not one.

Maybe I will run for Mayor! July 28, 2017 at 7:41 am

I liked our Mayor better before he came out (we all knew anyway). Now its all about the national scene and commenting on Trump in a negative way. Our mayor will fit right in with the Hillary crowd in DC. Redistribute the wealth, give the people that don’t care to work whatever they need at our expense…Make sure the uninsured are insured even though it basically makes the rest of us uninsured unless you have a heart attack or something. South Bend may finally elect a republican when Pete is done. He is showing everyone what Dems are really all about! Don’t worry though Pete. You will get “Pats” vote.

So, Diabetics cannot serve, people with depression or anxiety or flat feet cannot serve. Overweight cannot serve. There is a reason for this. It’s not discrimination. It’s called keeping our troops safe and able to function as a unit. But this is just Beuttigieg tooting his own horn again. As if spending unnecessary money and not taking care of city maintenance requires skill. Get over yourself. With the suicide/depression rates with medications required for transgenders to function every day alone they should be disqualified. Grow up and stop pretending everyone is a victim who is not a white conservative.
