An Elkhart man allegedly crossed the line with an officer Saturday morning.

Elkhart Police say 37-year-old Eric Williams hit an officer while being tased during an arrest shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday.

Williams was stopped by police near the intersection of Cassopolis and Merrill Streets and allegedly refused to give his driver’s license to officers. When he was asked to step out of the vehicle, ABC 57 reports he didn’t want to do that, either.

A struggle ensued and Williams was tased, but he tried to knock the taser out of the officer’s hand. In the process, the officer was hit. After a short struggle, Williams was finally brought into custody.

Officers believe Williams was intoxicated and also didn’t have a valid driver’s license. He’s facing charges of battery of an officer, operating while intoxicated, refusal to identify, and driving while suspended.

  1. My guess is that this person was wanting to instigate something so his “people” would raise hell. Wonder why they didn’t run to his side?
