After decades of decline, the city of South Bend’s population has grown for the fifth straight year in a row.

The U.S. Census Bureau released its annual population estimates this week. South Bend’s population comes in at 102,245. That is an increase of 223 people from 2016 and roughly matches population growth seen in the last five years.

Mishawaka’s population now sits at 49,177, an increase of about 260 people from the year before. Like South Bend, Mishawaka’s population has also grown each year since 2013.

South Bend’s rate of growth is still outpaced by Fort Wayne, who has added about 8,500 since 2012, compared to around 1,050 people that have been added in South Bend.
