If you weren’t in the path of the storms that hit portions of Michiana on Wednesday night, July 10, it probably seemed like a small passing thunderstorm.

But for many people, cleaning up the damage goes a lot further than just picking up a few fallen branches.

ABC 57 Meteorologist Emily Kennedy says microbursts hit around Cass County and the city of Elkhart causing extensive damage in spots.

For example, At one point Goshen Ave. south of Toledo Rd. was closed as I&M Crews worked to fix power lines that were taken down by a fallen tree. The road was also completely blocked by the tree forcing residents to detour around the area. There were also reports of tree’s the fell into homes, destroyed sheds, and even damaged vehicles.

After rolling through Elkhart late Wednesday night, nearly 10,000 Indiana Michigan Power customers were left without electricity. By 5 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, power was restored to nearly half of the customers.

Residents are reminded to watch out for debris along roadway as cleanup crews work in the area.
