An Elkhart man is suffering from serious injuries after being attacked by two dogs on Christmas Day.

Police were called to the 25000 block of Berry Street Wednesday, where they found the man trapped and injured in the backyard of a home.

Officers attempted to distract the dogs in order to access the man, but they charged, forcing the officers to fire at them.

One dog was killed at the scene, and the other fled the area; it later returned to the home and was taken to the Humane Society of Elkhart County.

The victim was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.
