Ibrahim Parlak once again fighting to stay in the U.S.

The Department of Homeland Security is once again threatening a Berrien County restaurateur with deportation.

It’s the latest move in the 20-year fight against deportation by Ibrahim Parlak. He’s a restaurant owner in Harbert, who says being Kurdish means a possible deportation to Turkey would likely be a death sentence.

At a news conference Wednesday Parlak said federal officials are appealing a judge’s ruling that allowed him to remain in the U.S. under the Convention Against Torture law. He claims he was tortured in Turkey.

Congressman Upton released a statement Wednesday supporting Parlak, who expects to hear an update on his status in a year.
