Regional voices respond to SCOTUS DACA decision

Area political voices were quick to respond to the US Supreme Court’s Thursday morning decision about DACA.

That’s the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, a policy impacting Dreamer immigrants that President Trump had sought to bring to an end.

Notre Dame’s President The Reverend John Jenkins said the Court “ruled on technical grounds what we applaud on moral ones.” He said the Court “invalidated the heartless cancellation of the DACA program, which needlessly put at rish thousands who entered the U.S. as minors and knew America as their only home.” Jenkins said the University supports those Dreamers in their struggles to stay in and contribute to the United States.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said the ruling made clear what we already knew: Dreamers belong here.

Former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg said those Dreamers are “as American as anyone” and contribute to communities across the country. He also called for real and permanent immigration policy reform.

Indiana State Senator David Niezgodski of South Bend praised the ruling as a positive step to recognizing that immigrants have always had a place in this country. He called it “gigantic news not only for our country, but especially for our community right here in St. Joseph County.”

And Republican Congressman Fred Upton said the decision provides clarity and was the right thing to do. Upton also called for Congress to participate in robust debate and bipartisan discussions on better solutions that will reform immigration and secure our borders.

All of the “local voices” quoted are wrong, thinking with their feelz (or their voter base) instead of their brain.

A program created by a Presidential Executive Order should be able to be dissolved by a Presidential Executive Order. The office of the President doesn’t overrule the office of the President.

This Supreme Court decision was a sham.
