Indiana’s tax on cigarettes may be on the rise.
Some state legislative leaders are supporting the idea of raising cigarette taxes, but there needs to be a clear plan on how the tax revenue will be used.
Republican House Speaker Todd Huston says increasing the cigarette tax would likely lower the rate of smoking across the state, but the additional revenue will eventually fall off without a plan.
The Indiana Chamber of Commerce recommends raising the cigarette tax from $2 per pack to $3 per pack.

Sin taxes are abhorrent and should be abolished! The tax code should be used to raise revenue, NOT control behavior.

Do like many other states and legalize Marijuana! States are making a ton of money off of that. As a smoker for nearly 40 years, $1 a pack more still isnt going to get me to quit. But raising the tax isnt done to inspire quitting for many. Even just medical Marijuana would put a ton of money into the state.
Money is like political crack…they will never get enough.
There will always be a group that can be targeted for doing a legal behavior who being a minority can be taxed for being part of that group. The majority will not clamor for them, and they didn’t like them anyway.
I’m not a cigarette smoker, I won’t pay this tax, I still do not support this behavior from our government.
The economy is taking a hit and they increase taxes to support loss of state income. They don’t tax sugar and fat that is added to every form of processed foods. Obesity is rampant and tapping on a smartphone is not exercise. What about all the GMO foods saturated with dioxins and preservatives that are causing cancer? What about 5G cell phones causing brain tumors? Anytime you point a finger at something you can tax and justify it by it not being healthy, you have 4 fingers pointing back to you for health issues from other sources. Instead of raising taxes, remove deadwood public servants and programs. Put people back to work and collect taxes as the system was designed. For those that are hired to do your work for you, maybe that position is not needed. Knee jerk tax hikes are insatiable taxes.

Leave the cigarettes alone legalize marijuana and get your tax money from medical marijuana. You have done enough to the smokers. Find another way to get your money. You want to tax us and you don’t even know what you want to do with the extra money. Leave us alone you get enough from us!!!
Well I don’t care. When I take my wife shopping in Evansville I go over to Henderson Ky. Buy 6 cartons and save almost $90.00. Guest what Indiana you don’t get $120.00 cigarettes tax and 7% sales tax.
