A Notre Dame professor has been nominated by President-elect Joe Biden to serve as secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Denis McDonough, a professor of public policy in the Keough School of Global Affairs, was nominated for the position Friday. McDonough graduated summa cum laude from St. John’s University in Minnesota with bachelor’s degrees in history and Spanish. He also has a master’s degree from Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service.

From 2010 to 2013, McDonough served as assistant to the president and principal deputy national security adviser. During this time, he chaired the National Security Council’s Deputies Committee, leading a team that addressed complex national security challenges.

McDonough then served as chief of staff to President Barack Obama from 2013 to 2017. As Obama’s chief of staff, McDonough managed the 4,000-member White House staff. He provided strategic advice to the president on the most significant domestic policy, national security and management issues facing the federal government.

In August 2017, McDonough joined the Notre Dame faculty, where he teaches courses on public policy analysis, writing for government and more.  He also currently serves as senior principal at the Markle Foundation, which works to address the labor market skills gap.

The Cabinet appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.

As a veteran and VA patient, I totally hate this pick (like many other Biden picks so far)! With no military experience, this pick only politicized an already struggling VA system!! You cant ensure proper care for vets if you are clueless to what vets have been thru and need. Biden is loading his team with many who are already proven failures…but at least they fit with his record!!

One more ?…. Why is it that all the political rejects flock to ND after they are done screwing we the people over while they are in government? Who you say? Paul Ryan, Joe Donley and this character McDonough, just to name a few. Do your research, look it up. Liberalism at its finest at the Golden Dome. Used to be a really good respected school. I can afford to send kids there but why in this world would I ever waste one cent there!!!!! So glad I wont be standing in your shoes on judgement day ND.

ND is a joke, as are all of Joe’s picks.

Don’t mistakenly believe that this idiocy will end in 4 years either. This is permanent, the new normal. Election fraud worked for them in 2020, what makes you think they will ever investigate themselves or stop cheating in the future?

Welcome to the banana republic!
