To qualify, the resident must be considered low-income, deaf, disabled or blind, a disabled veteran or a senior citizen. Applicants are not required to file a Michigan individual income tax return to receive the credit.

All applications must be received by September 30, 2021.

I do have a problem with the “low-income” qualification for this.

If we took all the benefits for low income people (heat, food, utility aid, rent assistance, etc) and add them up it comes out to over $32k annually as of a few years ago. So why would anyone work for anything close to that, when you can get the same value for FREEEEE and still have 2080 hours to waste over the course of that year?

Oh, and it is determined based on previous years income, so if you have been working and your job vanishes, you don’t deserve any help. This assistance is only for people who don’t work.

The safety net has turned into a hammock.
