Hoosier lawmakers react to FedEx shooting

Hoosier lawmakers are reacting to the news about the FedEx shooting. Governor Holcomb has called for all flags to be flown at half-staff until sunset Tuesday, April 20.

Holcomb also released a statement Friday morning:

This is another heartbreaking day and I’m shaken by the mass shooting at the FedEx Ground facility in Indianapolis. Indiana State Police are working with local responders and we will continue to offer any and all resources needed to assist during this tragedy. In times like this, words like justice and sorrow fall short in response for those senselessly taken. Our thoughts are with the families, friends, coworkers and all those affected by this terrible situation.

Both Indiana Senators Todd Young and Mike Braun called the shooting “senseless.”

Indianapolis City-County Councillor Ali Brown focused on gun control:

It would be absolutely coldhearted of House Speaker Todd Huston, Senate President Rodric Bray, and Governor Eric Holcomb if they failed to address gun violence as the state is currently in session and able to find a solution to this problem. The conversation will be tough, but we must get a firm grip of the situation and the collective epidemic — and if that means passing background check legislation, banning automatic rifles, and advocating for other common-sense gun control measures, let’s get that done immediately.

Former South Bend Mayor and current U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said the following on Twitter:

We wake up once more to news of a mass shooting, this time in Indiana. No country should accept this now-routine horror. It’s long past time to act.

Police said the shooter committed suicide.

We also need to talk about the utter failure of authorities at the local, state, and federal level when they KNEW this thug was dangerous and possibly insane. yet the was still apparently able to buy another firearm. The police took a shotgun from him a year ago. He tried to tell them he was a problem but they didn’t listen. Why is that the fault of the over 100-million law-abiding firearms owners that DID NOT shoot anyone this week or ever? We also forget that between 500,000 and 3,000,000 defensive firearm uses occur every year in this country. Those uses far out weigh the killings by mass murderers or on an average day in Chicago. use a little perspective in your thinking process.

This shooting is another victory for gun free zones. Disarming more law abiding citizens will not solve the ‘problem’, it will only make it worse.

Reopening the mental institutions will have far more positive impact.

The solution is to disarm everyone like Adolph Hitler did the Jews to stop the violence . How’d that work out ?
Will banning weapons work no !
We must change mens hearts.

Someone needs to tell the Dam Dum Dem Ali Brown that automatic weapons are already heavily restricted and this wasn’t one of them.

Of course, that would mean he’d have to learn something about the thing he wanted to regulate, and we can’t have that now, can we…
