Rep. Walorski glad to see Gov. Holcomb end federal pandemic unemployment benefits

Congresswoman Jackie Walorski says she glad Gov. Eric Holcomb is ending all federal unemployment benefits associated with COVID relief, beginning June 19. She made a video thanking Holcomb, also pointing out she and several other Republicans sent a letter to governors last week, asking them to end the benefits.

“It is so unfair for CEOs in my district and in the state of Indiana trying to compete with the federal government for workers,” she said in the video, released after Holcomb’s Monday decision was made public.

Some Democrats have pointed out that people have different reasons for not returning to the workforce. Holcomb said the end of the benefits won’t solve the employment problem completely. But, other Republican governors have done the same thing, hoping to give people incentive to get back to work.

“This isn’t just a restaurant issue. This is a manufacturing issue. This is a mom and pop issue. It’s impossible and unfair to compete with that kind of money that’s rolling in from the federal government,” she said.

Walorski represents Indiana’s 2nd District, which is north central Indiana. She has said in the past few weeks that several businesses have closed, in addition to the ones having chronic issues with employee shortages.

In the letter, Walorski, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), and Ways and Means Committee Republican Leader Kevin Brady (R-Texas) urged governors to adopt policies such as return-to-work bonuses that would reconnect unemployed workers with 8.1 million job openings nationwide.

Holcomb pointed out Monday that Indiana has 116,000 jobs to fill, including new jobs from Amazon, Apple, Toyota and Milwaukee Tool.

“Our local job creators should not have to compete with the federal government for workers,” reads the letter. “Yet that’s exactly what you face in your state’s local labor markets. Not only does this hurt the ability of local employers to recover from the economic slowdown of the pandemic, it produces supply shortages at the exact moment massive amounts of consumer stimulus are pushing prices higher, risking out of control inflation. Sadly, Democrats in Congress have refused to work with Republicans on this issue.”

I bet the Democrats are angry, this was a cornerstone of their plan to cause economic collapse. I’m sure there are people who will try to defend the Dems and claim collapse is not their goal, but when every single policy your party advances is this bad it is a safe bet that it’s not an accident.

After working on public housing for 20 years . One thing I learned for sure
Why work if someone will cloth you , feed you , Put a roof over your head ,pay your utility’s .
Give you a monthly welfare check .
No incentive to work or better yourself
As one young lady told me . I’m going to have babies like my mother we live very well .
This stimulus check is a democratic ploy .
Why work if the government will pay you to set on your butt and not look for work
To say look what we did for you .

Remember someone has to pay
It will be your children who will suffer.
Nothing , repeat nothing is free
Sad old timer watching our nation being destroyed from within by self serving people .

What about people laid off indefinitely who have had the same job/career/skills for a long time? Are they to just all of a sudden change careers or work for McDonalds? To suddenly cut off benefits when it can take months to apply, interview and wait to hear about a job is ludocris. This cut should have been based on individual situations and determined by Unemployment Division…not someone who lives in a mansion for free with all glass walls!! Holcomb needs to be replaces.
