Judge orders federally-enhanced unemployment benefit must continue in Indiana

(Tommie Lee/MNC)

A judge in Marion County has ruled that the federally enhanced unemployment benefit must continue after Governor Eric Holcomb ended it early last week.

Current funding for the added $300 per week is set to expire in September.

Critics of the enhanced benefit say that it’s obstructing business’ ability to hire workers.

Many judges are dummkopfs. High unemployment payments tend to increase unemployment while “help wanted” signs flourish all across the state.

Because people are sick of being treated like disposable trash. Almost all of the places complaining that they can’t find workers are the lowest paying jobs on the grid. Jobs where you can work a 40 hour week…which is rare…and still qualify for government assistance. People aren’t lazy, most want to work. But they are tired of killing themselves for a paycheck that doesn’t even cover their basic living expenses, working for employers who could care less about them as human beings, and treated like garbage. Pay people a living wage, treat them as respectfully as they treat you, give them some benefits. Dont expect them to work 12 hours a day 7 days a week. Then people will come back to work. Its no secret that eventually everyone will have to, but it does seem to be quite surprising to many of these bottom of the barrel employers that like it or not, people do seem to be exercising their right to choose. Imagine that lol. The worm is turning.

And where do you think the money for that “living wage” would come from, Victoria? Increased prices.

When you go to the store, do you pay more than you have to? Of course not! The labor market works the same way. A business would no more pay $15/hr for an employee worth $8, just like you won’t pay $15 for a gallon of milk.

People get paid what they are worth, production wise. Making the numbers bigger without a commensurate increase in the value of their production simply devalues currency by making ALL the numbers bigger. This is exactly what is happening now thanks to government interference in the labor market.

Economics 101.

“People get paid what they are worth” must be the reason companies moved most manufacturing (and other) jobs to foreign countries. And of course, Jeff Bezos et al are “worth” the rest of us … at least it’s just the government devaluing the currency, which leads to increased costs to workers and retirees … an invisible tax, passed to those who can least afford it.

Yeah, but you know she’d need to have some valuable skills to get paid to get more money and it’s not like that’s going to happen.

Why ? This giveaway needs to stop now
Gov spending is out of control.
Help wanted signs are rotting as I write
Why work when you can set on your butt and draw a check.
Democrates are ruining our nation as is this
Loser judge .

Nothing but a loser wearing a robe. He is doing nothing for the business people, but everything for the ones who just want to sit on their brains and let the taxpayers pay for them. A suck hole sucking up for the lazy people. There are plenty of jobs, just leave the basement and look.

I am unemployed because I caught COVID at the end of last year. I was in the hospital for weeks. I was fired from my job when my doctor informed my employer I could not be on my feet for long periods of time after I was released from the hospital. I am still on medication because of the damage done to my lungs. My wife cannot work because she is disabled and I have 2 children to support. How about thinking before you condemn benefits that allow me to provide for my family and pay my bills while I recover. I am a lifelong Republican and statements like what several individuals have posted in response to a Judge ensuring my family can survive this makes me ashamed of ever sharing ideas with individuals like yourselves.

If you can’t distinguish between unemployment and disability, you’re a RINO not a Republican.

I’m sorry for your specific circumstances, but for too many people the safety net has become a hammock. If you are genuinely unable to work, get on disability. People who can work but are choosing not to because of the overly generous unemployment benefits need to get back to work.

I did apply for disability however it is still in the application stage. It takes months. These benefits were designed for people affected directly by COVID. If you take issue with the fact that people are abusing the system that is one thing. However, that has nothing to do with the programs being available in the first place to those who actually need it. There is a big difference between people who need those services and people who do not. This is my first time in my entire life needing to accept help. I should not feel guilty about it because I was raised to work and support my family without help.

Sorry For what has happened to you nicholas however you are one of the few people that actually may need it. Most covid cases don’t end up like yours. Honestly its not anybody else’s responsibility to make sure you and your family survive other then your own. This is the problem with federal money being thrown around like this people.like yourself nicholas begin to look at it as though they are entitled to it. So what are we to do pay for you your whole life? Time to get back to work nicholas.

I have applied to several jobs. Thank you for your comment. Tell me how many companies in the construction field are hiring people that have to use a wheelchair half the time and need an inhaler every hour. Please enlighten me. The problem people such as yourself is having is that you have so many misconceptions and generalizations about certain situations that you can’t get past your own ideas and opinions. Grouping people into generalizations seldom work and usually just show ignorance.

Family and neighbors are supposed to be the answer, not the government and everyone else.

I don’t know who you are, I should not have to pay your way whatever your problems are. But I still have to open my pocket book every payday to pay the way for people I don’t know and a host of other things I don’t agree with to support the agenda of party of Death and Taxes.

Many years ago I was injured and could not work I could not get help because I owned my own home. I depended on my family to help me which they did and we survived. The point is the government has got to stop spending and throwing money around like it’s free. Your children will pay dearly for all this money being thrown around. I understand the need for some families who need help they should be able to get it ! but not just throw it around loosely like they are doing now just to garner votes . Mabey a temporary loan program for situations like this . It’s very important to prepare for the future and to have a little savings put back l lesson learned by me.
Pray for this nation

The problem is not the programs or assistance. It is that people take advantage and abuse the system when they do not need help. People should have help when they need it but the government should verify that they actually need it first.

They passed a law to give the money. Obey the law. Pretty simple

It’s easy to satisfy your greed when the government agrees.

If you have an issue with the law, work to change it. However, regardless of whether or not you agree with the law it still has to be followed. This is the first time in my life I have been unemployed. I started working when I was 14. It is not greed when it is needed. Neighbors and family do help but how many neighbors or family members do you think can afford to pay someone else’s bills while paying their own. It is fine for you to disagree or have your own opinion, you have that right. The government made these programs to help people directly affected by COVID. If you are arguing against it then you most likely weren’t affected by it.
