A court has handed down a $1 million judgment against an Elkhart woman convicted of killing her husband.
42-year-old Angelica Castillo is serving 45 years in prision after pleading guilty to killing her husband, 41-year-old Elder Castillo in 2018.
Authorities say after she shot and killed him, she hid his body and made withdrawals from his bank accounts at casinos in three states before fleeing to Georgia.
His family filed a lawsuit the day before she admitted the crime in court.
The Elkhart Truth reports a judge has ruled in favor of the family.
Castillo is now ordered to pay $300,000 to Castillo’s estate and more than $690,000 to the estate and his son.
She also has to pay for attorney fees and the cost of having her husband’s body cremated.
