Labor Day weekend is approaching, and the Kosciusko County Traffic Safety Partnership is warning residents against drinking and driving.

The department will be taking part in the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. It’s designed to educate motorists about the dangers and consequences of impaired driving.

From now until September 6, officers will be increasing patrols, showing zero tolerance for anyone caught driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about 28 people die in the U.S. from drunk driving crashes every day. That is around one person every 52 minutes.

Of the 898 fatalities that occurred in the sate last year, 17 % were alcohol related.

The department encourages you to plan a safe and sober ride home before going out.

Even if one drink is consumed, designate a sober driver or plan to use a ride share service, public transportation or taxi.

Motorist that encounter a drunk driver on the road are encouraged to call 911.

Drunk driving is a terrible idea, and nobody should do it.

However, I have a question: Is MADD still getting revenue from hosting the mandatory classes for people convicted of a DUI? The same MADD that lobbied for tighter alcohol limits?

Is this about drunk driving, or is it about revenue?
