The city of Elkhart may have to spend $1 million dollars to replace the Lerner Theatre’s heating and cooling system.

The current one was installed during the theatre renovations a decade ago.

The Elkhart Truth reports 7 of the theatre’s 10 rooftop units are shuttered as a result of being ran too hard over the last 10 years. Other factors include damage caused by hail storms and power outages.

In 2019, the theatre spent about $8,000 on repairs before shelling out an additional $15,000 in 2020. This year it’s estimated the cost of repairs could reach up to $30,000.

The City Council is expected to vote on the issue during its’ October 4th meeting.
