Sen. Braun, Sec. of Education Cardona on some school districts banning public comments

Some school districts in Indiana have banned public comments because emotions have run high over mask mandates, Critical Race Theory and COVID restrictions.

Sen. Mike Braun questioned Sec. of Education Miguel Cardona about a statement he made to political reporter Adam Wren that may have generalized angry parents.

“I think it’s a proxy for being mad that their guy didn’t win,” said Cardona, according to the report.

“I know you probably didn’t mean that and I’ll give you a chance to retract it,” said Braun. “Is that something you’d want to take back?”

“I know across the country our school board meetings are a little intense,” responded Cardona, during questioning. “School boards are unwavering in their support for returning students to school and providing a safe learning environment.”

Braun, himself a school board member said he believes that boards are sincere in their desire to protect students.

“What about the statement? Would you want to that back and not politicize something where I think it’s an honest, sincere difference of opinion across the country? I don’t know that I’d want to be on record with that.”

Cardona seemed like he didn’t mind being on record with the statement.

“Senator, I’ll tell you the lack of civility in some of our meetings is disappointing and frustrating,” said Cardona.

“And I know it can get rowdy and I’ll take it that you don’t want to retract it at this point.”

“Rowdy?” asked Cardona. “It was very dangerous in some places.”

Instead of banning public comments, the school boards should try listening to the public instead.

Parents are angry because of what you lefti-looni “educators” are foisting off on their kids. It has nothing to do with the Fraud who is in the White House, nor the President who isn’t.

Keep your political garbage out of schools, like unscientific mask mandates, racist CRT propaganda, and panicky but hollow COVID gestures. Remove that BS, and you won’t have to worry about irate parents hurting your feelz.

Sounds like the school board wants to have the final and only say in the matter.

Like many public officials the school boards forget who they work for. They work for the PARENTS and no one else. they are to hold the school administrations accountable for the garbage the push on the children. They are supposed to be the representatives of THE PEOPLE in the school. But instead they do all in their power to shut off any debate or legitimate concerns parents have about the slimy teaching in the schools. In Elkhart the school board twice tried to saddle taxpayers with more taxes. They were told not once but twice to pound sand. They they blame parents for not wanting to pay more for a substandard education. Then they all wonder why home schooling has doubled in recent years. Be very careful who you vote for to put on the school board. Most of them are not your friend.
