The future of work in Indiana is likely to be different in many kinds of businesses and some of that has to do with the pandemic and the worker shortage.
Many people have had a taste of what it’s like to work from home and whether they can achieve the same level of productivity. At the same time, companies have seen how flexible they can be with some positions.
Gerry Dick, with Inside Indiana Business, said, on Tony Katz and the Morning News, that could be an advantage for states like Indiana, that have a low cost of living.
“You’re looking at workers who have discovered, hey, we can work from anywhere. If I’m in California or I’m paying higher taxers and my quality of life, cost of living, those types of things are maybe not what I want them to be, why don’t I move to the Midwest?” he said.
Dick said it’s easy for people to work from home and have an affordable lifestyle and some counties and regions in Indiana actually have programs with financial incentives to encourage that.
“The gig economy, remote work and all those factors are factoring in to what the future of work is, what’s going to be the mix going forward of in office v. out of office,” he said.
He said it’s a debate going on at companies of all sizes in Indiana and around the country.
“Coming out of the pandemic, more of the myriad of factors that are going to make life post=pandemic a little bit different than before,” he said.

I think that remote work is a factor, but the real driver will be other states lurching leftward and driving people to come to successful red states. COVID mandates, passports, employer requirements, “emergency” taxes, rampant crime, all those are the motivators and they are all present in the deep blue cities and states. Even the lefties don’t want to live that way…
They can move but should leave their destructive voting habits in the rear view mirror too. Don’t bring your liberal policies that ruined your state with you.
