An Elkhart man charged in a fatal stabbing allegedly told police he dreamed that he killed the victim just before waking up and deciding to carry it out.

Jake Brunette, 25, was arrested shortly after the incident, this week, in the Monarch mobile home park in the 2300 block of Cassopolis Street in Elkhart.

He is accused of killing 23-year-old Andrew Conley, with whom he was romantically linked, according to police.

Brunette allegedly told officers he woke up convinced that he needed to kill Conley and that he listened to some Frank Sinatra music to get into the mood.

The Elkhart Truth reports a man called 911 to report that he had been stabbed.

The victim’s call was disconnected, but a woman phoned minutes later and said that Brunette chased Conley out of the home with a knife. Officers arrived to find Brunette covered in blood.

He was taken into custody on murder charges.

He’s due back in court in early December.
