Indiana ranked #5 in U.S. in pork production

Indiana is the 5th-largest state for pork production in the U.S.

This is due in part to record meat shipments which also allow Indiana’s grain farmers a chance to bring home the bacon, too.

One Hoosier farmer who serves on the executive committee of the U.S. Meat Export Federation says that helps farmers in Indiana in several ways. Mark Legan of the Indiana Pork Producers Association tells Inside Indiana Business “somewhere between 25%-30% of the pork in Indiana is being exported. So, if we’re exporting close to a third of the pigs, then that bodes well for the industry and gives us some market diversification around the world.”
