Elkhart County Homicide Unit investigating two deaths in Elkhart

A man is dead after a shooting in Elkhart. Officers were called to the KFC restaurant in the 2700 block of South Main Street, early Wednesday afternoon, May 25, where a man was found injured. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

That call came a short time after police were called to the 2900 block of Pleasant Plain on the report of a domestic situation. Officers found a woman dead at the scene.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is leading the investigations at both locations.

The Elkhart Police Department released the following information:

This afternoon at approximately 12:36 p.m., dispatch received a potential domestic disturbance call in the 2900 block of Pleasant Plain Avenue, Elkhart. Elkhart Police Department Officers were dispatched to the scene, and arrived within
minutes.

Upon arrival, officers located a female inside the residence suffering from apparent gunshot wound(s). Medics also arrived on scene and rendered first aid; unfortunately, the female was pronounced deceased at the scene. There was no suspect at the scene upon police arrival.

Within minutes of this call, at approximately 12:38 p.m., dispatch received a call in reference a male with gunshot wound(s) at 2709 S. Main St, Elkhart (KFC).

Elkhart Police Department officers were dispatched to the location and discovered a male behind the building suffering from apparent gunshot wound(s). First aid was rendered, and the male was transported to the hospital. He was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit was activated, per protocol, and arrived at the scene.

The investigation is on-going, and there is no immediate danger to the public. The identities of the deceased individuals are being withheld at this time, pending family notification.
