South Bend Police investigating string of car thefts

The South Bend Police Department is investigating a string of car thefts that may be motivated by posts circulating on social media.

In July, officers have responded to several reports of thefts and or attempted thefts of newer-model Kia and Hyundai brand vehicles.

These cases are being investigated as a video continues to make its rounds online, demonstrating how these vehicles could be stolen without a key.

Whether you own a Kia or Hyundai vehicle or not, you can avoid making your vehicle a target by: Using a steering wheel locking device, parking in well-lit areas, keeping doors locked at all times, keeping personal belongings out of plain view, and reporting any suspicious activity to the South Bend Police Department

These thefts and attempted thefts remain active and ongoing investigations by the Property Crimes Unit.

If you have any information, you can leave an anonymous tip with Michiana Crime Stoppers by calling 574-288-STOP.

You left out “don’t live in or go to South Bend”, which seems like the best advice of all.

Charles, you are so correct on that city. Some call it now ( Lawless Bend, IN ). Most of the city cops live outside of the city limits. They don’t want to raise their families around unstable people and high crime.
