The Indiana Department of Workforce Development has received a $10.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to connect employers with dislocated Hoosier workers.
The money comes from the Quality Jobs, Equity, Strategy, and Training Disaster Recovery (QUEST) grant program which targets high-quality jobs in infrastructure, environment and climate, the care economy and other critical and growing sectors.
The Department of Workforce Development will use the grant funding to partner with the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and others to develop an outreach strategy with Indiana employers to target populations disproportionately impacted by the economic inequities exacerbated by the pandemic.
For the employer population, the department will prioritize work with employer partners in identified, high-demand recovering sectors, and in emerging sectors such as renewable energy, electric vehicle technologies and semiconductor production.

Wow Indiana should have turned this down! This is a political agenda in the form of a “grant” the language makes it very clear about it “target populations disproportionately impacted by the economic inequities exacerbated by the pandemic”
Wow what a shallow poorly thought out response! Yes – turn down money that will then be sent to another State to train THEIR workers!
While I’m not a fan of throwing money around during inflationary periods, any opportunity to invest in employee skill development (irrespective of whether they are proportionately or disproportionately impacted) should always be welcome.
Wow actually it was not poorly thought out. Indiana has no need take any federal dollars to train workers we are actually so far in the green that we have received refunds on taxes paid. ALL federal dollars have strings attached to them which is something most people know (I thought they did at least) and in Indiana don’t want (more federal involvement in our state). Btw you can’t have it both ways you not a fan of throwing around money in an inflationary period but that is what this is when it is not needed Workforce Development is one of the best funded in the country sorry
Sorry ZaM, but when you see “inequities, renewable energy, electric vehicle technologies, environment and climate” in a press release involving a grant from the leftists in the Biden administration, you KNOW the program is going to be a boondoggle and that the program will not be available to everyone equally based on worthless metrics like skin color and gender.
H is correct, I will bet you folding money that the hooks in this grant are a lot more harmful than the grant dollars are helpful.
Half of the motivated population to learn these skills will not have access cause they will throw in all kinds of qualifications that will block most from attempting to get involved.
