A man has been arrested on multiple charges after allegedly firing a handgun at his girlfriend after she did not make him a plate of food.

South Bend Police responded to a home Monday night on reports of a possible domestic incident.

When officers arrived, they found two children inside a car and a man and woman on the porch.

The couple said there was only an argument, but the children told police that the man, Damone McFerren, had fired shots inside the home.

The woman then admitted that McFerren was angry with her because she did not make him a plate of food. She said he chased her in the house and fired a handgun at her three times before going outside and hiding the handgun.

Police were able to locate three spent shell casings inside the home, as well as a 45 caliber handgun in a discarded tire in the alleyway near the home, reports said.

McFerren has previously been convicted of distribution of heroin and was on federal probation during the time of the incident.

McFerren has been charged with pointing a firearm, criminal recklessness with a headly weapon, battery by means of a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, unlawful carrying of a handgun and unlawful carrying of handgun prior conviction.
