Michigan State University will change its teacher preparation program from five to four years.
Bridge Michigan says this change will change education majors a total of $16,700 in tuition costs and will award them a credential more quickly.
This is one of several efforts to help produce more teachers in Michigan, especially in areas including math, special education and world languages. State and education officials are also providing alternative routes to certification, student teaching stipends, scholarships and more, Bridge Michigan says.
The program change will take effect with students enrolling next fall.

Michigan and Indiana due to strong teacher union opposition were the only 2 States to forbid the military soldiers to teachers programs. This took trained military teachers and mentor them to become teachers with their current 4 year degrees I had a Masters when I military retired, taught at Universities but would have had to go back to school for 4 years as an undergrad to teach in Indiana
