A South Bend man will spend the next 55 years in prison after pleading guilty to killing a woman at the Rodeway Inn motel in Roseland.

The shooting happened in September of 2019. Witnesses, at the time, told police they saw Jamie Nathaniel Garner, naked, pointing a gun while arguing with the victim.

The witness ran out of the room and called police, who arrived to find Jenna Lynn Vanhorn shot to death at the motel on State Road 933.

Garner was arrested nearly two weeks later at a family member’s home in Detroit.

In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped a firearm sentencing enhancement and agreed to a maximum 55-year prison sentence.

Garner is expected to be sentenced in January.

Plea agreaments are made by coward prosecuters! Its a slap in the face to victims and families. Too many prosecuters are more concerned about their win-lose record than being agressive with hardened criminals and that puts society in danger!

Why do the misinformed people of St. Joseph County keep voting for the same prosecutor ? Nobody was running against him in the election we just in November. The judges and the prosecutor’s office are too weak on punishing criminals. Mr. Garner should have received the death penalty, Indiana still has it. Public executions are a good deterrent for teaching people they can’t murder innocent people.
