South Bend has been named Indiana’s 75th Broadband Ready Community.
The program was started to encourage communities to invest in infrastructure to make broadband easier to include.
The Indiana Broadband Office approved South Bend, after they adopted a Broadband Ready Community ordinance.
Northwest Indiana Business Magazine reports that about 15 communities have been approved in 2022 alone.
Other Broadband Ready Communities in Northwest Indiana and Michiana are the Town of Merrillville, Newton County, Jasper County, Starke County, Marshall County, Town of Etna Green, LaPorte County, and Porter County.

If there was a market for it, broadband companies would invest on their own. The fact that there is no market for broadband in South Bend without massive subsidies tells you why the service providers didn’t come here on their own.
