The search for the suspect(s) who shot and killed an 11-year-old boy in South Bend continues.

Officers were called just before 5 p.m., Thursday, April 20,  to the 600 block of North Johnson Street on a ShotSpotter notification.

Upon arrival, they found the young victim, identified as T’yon Horston, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Horston was taken to the hospital, where he ultimately died due to his injuries.

The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is leading the investigation.

Anybody with information is asked to contact Michiana Crime Stoppers at 574-288-STOP.

Mayor James Mueller responded to Thursday’s tragedy with the following statement:
“This is another tragic loss of life from senseless gun violence, and my prayers are with his loved ones. We need to come together as a community to protect our kids and keep them alive and free. The City will continue to share relevant updates as the investigation proceeds. I urge residents with information to share it with our investigators or anonymously through Crime Stoppers. The violence must stop, and justice must be served through our legal system.”

So many households don’t have the presence of a father figure growing up. The key is raising your children in a two parent, Judeo-Christian home with values. Decent people can’t raise their children in a neighborhood where irresponsible criminals discharge firearms.

I went to school with this young man, he was an amazing soul, full of life, and he did not deserve this. This is a tragic, tragic accident and I agree with David A Kriegel. Thank you for everything, and please, please honor this young man. It was not his fault.
