The South Bend Cubs has scored $5 million.

That’s the investment signed by Governor Holcomb, this past week, on what was a very different kind of signing day.

The Governor was wearing a South Bend Cubs hat and jersey when he signed Senate Bill 326, allotting up to 5 million dollars per year to pay for stadium improvements and other projects.

State Representative Jake Teshka, South Bend Mayor James Mueller, and team owner Andrew Berlin attended the signing ceremony at the Indiana Statehouse.

The bill expands previous legislation that sets aside tax dollars to support publicly-owned stadiums in a city. The South Bend Cubs could see up to $100 million over 20 years.

It is beyond ridiculous that tax dollars are going to fund private stadiums. This is one area where both sides of the aisle should stand in opposition.

Bread and circuses, the key to keeping the plebeians of the Roman Empire happy…it’s all Caesar needs to do.
