Two single vehicle crashes under investigation in Elkhart County

An 18-year-old Elkhart man was hospitalized early after crashing his vehicle into a tree.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened just before 5 a.m. on Sunday, April 27, at the intersection of State Road 15 and County Road 14. The driver was traveling west on County Road 14 in a 1995 Ford Mustang when he failed to stop at the intersection. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree with its front end.

The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, reported lower hip pain and was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment. He was later issued a citation for failing to stop at a stop sign.

The crash remains under investigation

A New Paris man was injured early after his vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a drainage ditch near Syracuse.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office reports the crash happened around 2:20 a.m. on Sunday, April 27, along U.S. Highway 6, about three miles northwest of Syracuse city limits.

Investigators say a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling westbound when it left the north side of the road, struck a guardrail, and came to rest in a large drainage ditch. The 23-year-old male driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered lacerations and contusions to his face and head.

He was transported by ambulance to Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
