New Paris man dies in hospital almost two weeks after buggy crash

A New Paris man died on Monday, June 22, after the buggy he was in was hit by a vehicle earlier this month.

Devon Slabaugh, 52, was traveling slow on the U.S. 6 shoulder, east of County Road 9, when a truck hit the back of his buggy and pushed it into a ditch, according to a news release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department. The crash happened after a semi hit the back of the truck.

The collision happened on June 11, along U.S. 6 about three miles east of Nappanee,

 

Slabaugh was taken to Memorial Hospital of South Bend, where he died.
