Zach Anderson, Elkhart teenager convicted of sex crime, released from jail

An Elkhart teen who had sex with a underage girl who lied about her age was released from Berrien County Jail on Thursday.

Zach Anderson, 19, embraced his mother and father as he was released after completing his 90 day sentence, according to 95.3 MNC’s news partners The Elkhart Truth.

Anderson was also sentenced to 25 years on the sex offender registry and five years of probation, during which he can’t speak to other children younger than 18 except for his siblings and can’t use or live in a home where internet access is available.

Anderson and his parents are fighting the sentence, claiming that the prosecutor violated the terms of his plea deal and that the sentence was unduly harsh. The 14-year-old victim and her mother both requested that the case be dropped.
