Elkhart student hit by car Tuesday morning

A 12-year-old Elkhart Community Schools student was taken to the hospital Tuesday morning, Sept. 8, after he was struck by a car while waiting for the school bus. 

The boy was standing on the south side of Roseland Road east of Sparkling Spring Trail when he was hit by the passenger side bumper and passenger side mirror of a passing car, according to a news release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department. The crash happened at about 6:46 a.m.

The boy was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with injuries to his left knee.

The boy’s parents were with him at the hospital, according to a statement posted on the Elkhart Community Schools Facebook page. The school is asking the community to “please keep this young person and family in your thoughts.”
