Mayor Pete Buttigieg, mayoral candidate Kelly Jones spar over bicyclists on the road, violent crime in the city and Smart Streets initiative

The two candidates running for mayor of South Bend in the November election met Tuesday night, Oct. 6, for their first and only debate.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg, a Democrat , and his Republican challenger Kelly Jones each answered 19 questions during the 90 minute debate at IU South Bend. Buttigieg and Jones shared their views on how to reduce crime in the city, bicycle safety around town and what needs to be done to grow the downtown area and the city.
