Two people injured in vehicles vs horse crash in Elkhart County

Two people were injured in a crash involving three vehicles and a horse.

The collision happened just before 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7 on State Road 120 east of County Road 29, according to a news release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

Police say a 48-year-old Goshen woman driving a pick-up truck was traveling westbound on SR 120 when a horse crossed into her path.

The woman struck the horse, launching the animal over the hood. The horse then struck the windshield of the truck.

A second vehicle traveling eastbound on SR 120 then struck the horse, dragging it for approximately 40 yards.

A third vehicle traveling westbound on SR 120 then struck a spare wheel that came the Goshen woman’s truck bed. The driver lost control of the vehicle and came to a full stop on the road.

The Goshen woman that struck the horse was taken to the hospital with head, neck, jaw and internal injuries. A 51-year-old man who was a passenger in the truck was taken the hospital with a head injury.

The horse was killed on impact.
