Elkhart Four: Levi Sparks, Blake Layman should leave prison in 2016, DOC says

After confusion over the release dates for Levi Sparks, Blake Layman and Anthony Sharp, the Indiana Department of Correction clarified when the three men part of the group known as the Elkhart Four will be released from prison.

Sparks is expected to be released from prison in February, according to our news partners The Elkhart Truth. Layman will likely be released in April, while Sharp is expected to be released in 2018.

The three were resentenced for burglary earlier in January after the Indiana Supreme Court threw out their previous felony murder convictions in September 2015.

The Indiana Department of Correction is still calculating time served credits for Sparks, Layman and Sharp, which is why the DOC website lists expected release dates as late as 2017 and 2018. Sparks and Layman are also expected to receive credit for good behavior various programs like GED completion.

Jose Quiroz, the fourth man in the Elkhart Four, pleaded guilty to felony murder and is seeking post-conviction relief.
