Indiana expanding definition of rape

On Friday, July 1, along with a whole host of other laws going into effect, Indiana will be expanding the definition of rape.
Previously, the definition of rape in Indiana wasn’t as broad, including the conditions: that rape occurs when a person is compelled into sex through force, is unaware that sex is happening (such as being unconscious), or is not mentally capable to give consent.
Now, rape is when a person has sex while ignoring another’s attempts to physically, verbally, or visibly refuse consent.
The new definition was added to help close any potential loopholes that offenders can use.
