UPDATE: The Elkhart police officer who was seriously hurt in a crash at Osolo Road and Woodland Estates Drive, late Wednesday night, has been identified. Police Corporal Leonard Dolshenko remains in stable condition at Memorial Hospital in South bend. Dolshenko was off-duty at the time of the crash. Elkhart County Sheriff’s investigators say he was on a motorcycle and attempted to pass another vehicle, which was attempting a turn, and was struck by the front of that vehicle. Dolshenko has served with the Elkhart Police Department for 14 years.
ORIGINAL STORY: An off-duty Elkhart Police officer was seriously injured in a crash at Osolo Road and Woodland Estates Drive.
The collision happened just before 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28.
According to Elkhart Police, 911 dispatchers received a call about a motorcycle and vehicle crash that occurred.
Elkhart Police Department officers and Elkhart Fire Department medics dispatched and arrived shortly thereafter.
Emergency personnel rendered first aid to the male motorcycle driver. The motorcycle driver, who was identified as an off-duty Elkhart Police Department officer, was rushed to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, with serious injuries. He was in stable condition at last report.
The female driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was not hurt.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, which is leading the crash investigation, states that the crash happened when the motorcyclist attempted to pass the other vehicle on the left, which was attempting a turn and was struck by the front of that vehicle.
