An Ohio man has been sentenced for his role in a 2020 armed robbery in Cassopolis.
James Edward Birtcher III, of Columbus, pleaded guilty to armed robbery and received a prison sentence of 6-years-and-8-months to 15 years.
Leader Publications reports he’s already serving a 25-year sentence in Indiana for attempted murder, and this new sentence will run concurrently.
The robbery took place in March 2020 on Day Lake Road, where Birtcher and three others tried to steal money and drugs from a person they knew. When the target wasn’t home, they robbed the man’s girlfriend and killed her dog.
Later that day, the group was involved in a murder in St. Joseph County in Indiana.
