Two men from a Middlebury-based pet transportation service died in a crash on Interstate-5 in California on June 19th.
Lloyd Miller, 21, of Middlebury and Willis Bontrager, 23, of Elroy, Wisconsin were killed when their utility van collided with a Jeep driven by a 74-year-old woman going the wrong way on Interstate 5 in the Golden State.
The woman, along with the two men, died at the scene, and several puppies they were transporting also perished. The crash caused all three vehicles to catch fire. The driver of a third vehicle involved escaped with minor injuries.
The fiery crash also sparked a wildfire that burned about 90 acres of land.

Oh Lord how aweful!!! Sounds like a rescue vehicle was trying to get those babies to new homes. Hopefully they investigate and find out why that lady was driving. You have to draw the line somewhere as family members. Especially if there are medical conditions that should keep the keys away from some elderly.

Don’t lump all older people in the same basket! i’m 79 and have all my abilities to drive as I did when i was young.
if I met you you would not know my Age so quit assuming that all people over 50 are senile.

There are “Robust” , “age-appropriat” and “frail” seniors. All who have been driving for more years than some of us have been alive. I know it is hard enough on elderly people to have to start relying on other people to get them to appointments, take them shopping.etc… some are understanding and might even feel it is their right to drive. But we have the problem of those who really know they should not be driving but are stuck in there ways and insist that it’s always the other drivers fault. Take my 80 year old ex for example. Has had several strokes , has a defibilator and a watchman, he does not think clearly at all. He is always ready to fight young people all the time. I know he can not drive well. He scares the hell out of me, so I don’t go anywhere in the car with him !. I have spoken to his doctors and voiced my concerns and nothing happens. I’m so afraid he is going to kill himself in that car, or worse yet other innocent people. His anger alone she stop him from being in public places. And . FYI.. he was a captain detective for 20+ years . He will never admit that he can’t drive. He always blames all the other vehicles ?? What can I do ?? If he knew I wrote this comment , it would cause a war.
