Federal officials say a South Bend construction company has agreed to pay $10,000 for violating federal lead paint rules.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Justice reached a settlement with Homeworks Construction Inc. after saying the company did renovations on 17 older homes without abiding by lead-safe practices.

They say the company is certified and in compliance now, but the settlement is subject to a public comment period and final approval.
