An Elkhart man accused of breaking into a home and threatening the homeowner with a gun will return to court for another hearing.

During a Thursday status conference, defense attorneys for 35-year-old Marcus Newton requested an additional trial status conference, now set for November 6.

Police say Newton and his girlfriend went to a home on Cassopolis Street to retrieve their dogs when an argument escalated.

The Goshen News says Newton allegedly forced his way inside, choked the homeowner unconscious, then returned through a window with a gun, making threats. Newton faces charges of burglary, pointing a firearm and strangulation. His jury trial begins November 17.
