Firefighter falls through attic fighting house fire in Benton Township

A firefighter escaped injury after falling through an attic while battling a house fire on Hope Way near Crystal in Benton Township.
The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety was dispatched around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23, on automatic aid to assist Benton Charter Township Fire Department, which arrived to find flames showing from the front of a small one-story home.
St. Joseph Department of Public Safety personnel and Medic 1 Ambulance also responded to the scene. The extent of the damage and the cause of the fire remain under investigation.
