A federal grand jury in the Northern District of Indiana has returned a 17-count indictment charging five individuals in connection with a methamphetamine distribution operation in South Bend, federal officials announced.
The indictment names DeCarlos L. Smallwood, Robert Sanders, Kumar Bishop, Sanena Williams, and DeCarlos C. Smallwood. The charges include drug trafficking, money laundering, and firearm offenses tied to the alleged distribution network.
Prosecutors say DeCarlos L. Smallwood also faces a separate charge of attempting to kill a federal official performing official duties on Nov. 6 – the day federal agents arrested him and executed a search warrant at his residence.
The investigation involves multiple agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, FBI, ATF, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Indiana State Police, and police departments in South Bend, St. Joseph County, and Mishawaka.
